Coca Cola Japan is committed to sustainability through their 100% recycled PET bottles initiative. This is done through Coca Cola Japan’s bottle-to-bottle program, in which they collect and recycle used PET bottles in order to create new PET bottles to be used as beverage containers as an effort to circularize plastic resources. Every 100% recycled PET bottle also reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 60%, further minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. In 2021, the collection rate of PET bottles in Japan is 94% with a recycling rate of 86%. With the already established resource circulation scheme in Japanese society, used PET bottles are a suitable resource for reuse. Coca Cola Japan’s goal is to gather the same quantity of PET bottles by 2030 as they sell their own products in Japan. They also aim to work with customers to further establish bottle-to-bottle recycling.
